Materials:

  • South Maid crochet cotton size 10 (350 yd per ball): Small amounts each soft yellow #143 (A), white #1 (B) and spruce #179 (C)
  • Size 7 steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Kreinik Metallics blending filament (50m per spool): 1 spool each star yellow #091 (BFA) and star mauve #093 (BFB)
  • Wooden picture frame
  • Spray starch
  • Craft glue

Instructions:

Gauge 
Rnd 1 of daffodil = 1/2" in diameter Check gauge to save time.

Pattern Note 
Join rnds with a sl st unless otherwise stated.

Pattern Stitches 
Trtr: Yo hook 4 times, insert hook into indicated st, yo, draw up a lp, [yo,draw through 2 lps on hook] 5 times. P: Ch 2, sl st in top of last cl made.

Daffodil (make 2)

Petals
Rnd 1 (RS): With 1 strand B and 1 strand BFB held together, ch 1 (center ch), ch3 more (counts as first dc), 11 more dc in center ch, join in back lp only intop of beg ch-3. (12 dc)

Rnd 2: Working in back lps only this rnd, *ch 5;holding back on hook last lp of each st, 2 trtr in st at base of ch-5, 2 trtr innext st, yo, draw through all 5 lps on hook (cl made), p, ch 5, sl st in same stas last leg of last cl made**, sl st in next st, rep from * around, ending lastrep at **, join in st at base of beg ch-5, fasten off. (6 petals) Center Note:Do not join rnds unless otherwise specified; mark first st of each rnd withsafety pin or other small marker.

Rnd 3: With RS facing, attach 1 strand A and 1strand BFA held together with a sl st in rem lp of any Rnd 1 dc at center right;working in rem lps only this rnd in clockwise direction, ch 1, sc in same st asjoining, sc in each rem st around. (12 sc)

Rnds 4-7: Sc in each sc around; at end of Rnd 7,join in beg sc. (12 sc)

Rnd 8: [Ch 2, sl st in next sc] rep around,ending with ch 2, join in st at base of beg ch-2, fasten off.

Leaf
With C, ch 31; beg at top of leaf, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next2 chs, hdc in each of next 2 chs, dc in each of next 25 chs, ch 3, sl st in samech as last dc; working in rem lps up opposite side of foundation ch, ch 3, dc insame st as last sl st made, dc in each of next 24 sts, hdc in each of next 2 sts,sc in each of next 2 sts, sl st in last st, join in beg sl st, fasten off.

Stems
With C, ch 34 for large stem; beg at top of stem, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc ineach of next 11 chs, ch 13 for small stem, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ofnext 11 chs, sc in each rem unworked ch down large stem, fasten off.

Finishing
Pin daffodils out and spray with spray starch. Let dry. Using picture as aguide, glue daffodils, stems and leaves to side of picture frame with craftglue.
