Choose serrated (provides a cleaner cut on metallic threads) or non-serrated blades. 

• Serrated blades have a sawtooth, dentate or toothed blade. They are ideal for cutting through textured materials like metallic threads. Less friction during the cutting action means a cleaner cut on the fibers.
• Non-serrated blades have a straight-edge, smooth blade and are better for silk or cotton floss or cutting smooth fabrics.
