Snapping Turtle Amulet Bag

Materials needed:
- four 10m spools of Kreinik Medium (#16) Braid in 015 Chartreuse (color A)
- two 10m spools of Medium (#16) Braid in 091 Star Yellow (color B)
- one 10m spool Medium (#16) Braid in 061 Ruby (color C)
- size 7 steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
- 2(1/8)-inch in diameter black beads
- 3 (3/8)-inch in diameter clear snap fasteners
- 30-inch length gold chain
- sewing needle, green sewing thread, black sewing thread
Instructions:
Gauge: 9 sc = 1 inch
Front
Center Strip
Row 1 (WS): With A, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 2 chs, turn. (3 sc)
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc throughout), [dc, changing to A; 2 dc] in last sc, ch 1, turn. (7dc)
Row 3: Sc3tog, sc in next dc, sc3tog, turn. (3 sts)

With RS facing, sk next 4 sts after last st of Row 1 of first back leg, attach A with a sl st in next st, ch 7, sc in 2nd ch froom hook, sc in each of next 2 chs, hdc in next ch, dc in each of next 2 chs, sk next sc on Rnd 4 of border, sl st in next st, fasten off, leaving short length for finishing. With tapestry needle, sew center bottom of tail to border.
Back
Center Strip
Rows 1-7: With B only, rep instructions for center strip for front; do not change colors.
Border

Rnd 4: Reversing colors, rep Rnd 4 for border for front.
First Front Leg

With WS facing, working in front lps only, rep instructions for tail for front.
Finishing
With sewing needle and black sewing thread, sew beads onto turtle’s head for eyes. Place front of turtle over back of turtle, WS tog. With sewing needle and green sewing thread, beg at lower edge of either front leg, sew front and back together around to lower edge of opposite front leg.
With sewing needle and green sewing thread, sew 1 end of gold chain to top of seam on either side; sew rem end to top of seam on opposite side.
With sewing needle and green sewing thread, sew 1 snap fastener at top of each front leg and 1 at top of head.
