Trends in Stitching

Kreinik just exhibited at the The Nashville Needlework Market, a trade show for cross-stitch shops that was held in February in Nashville, Tennessee. In walking the show, we were excited to see many new ideas and fun projects for stitchers. Look for these fabulous new stitchery items in your local needlework shop:

Sue Hillis' Sweet Memories designs include Easter Greetings, Victorian Florals, Special Valentines. All use Kreinik Silk Mori with Tokens & Trifles sewing cards. They are easy to stitch and make nice gifts. You'll love them! www.suehillisdesigns.com

Fantasy lovers will find treasures galore in Enchanting Lair's latest projects, including these titles: What Are You Looking At?, The Proposal, Pumpkin Pixie, Go Away!, Cookie Dragon, Hope, Love, Peace, Dragonwings, A Dragon's Lair, Wisdom Visit www.enchantinglair.com.

Check out Black Swan's latest, Flight of Fancy, featuring #4 Braid 026. 152V. 014HL. Karen told us a darling story about her granddaughter, who made up a tale about the dragon in this picture. It reminded us how imaginations can take flight at all ages, and that's where creativity begins. www.blackswandesigns.com.

Cindy Valentine Designs features lovely samplers that incorporate Hardanger elements. Midnight Arabesque features Kreinik #4 Braid in 9294 Periwinkle, and Blending Filament in 032 Pearl. www.cindyvalentine.com.

For cat owners and cat lovers, check out Leah Backman's Max series. Max is a tuxedo cat, and Leah has a series to cross stitch. Firecracker Max uses #4 Braid 3228 and Valentino Max uses #8 Braid 032. Check out www.AKittyKats.com.

Sandra Murray's Symphony is even more beautiful to see in person. It uses 25 Silk Mori colors and one color of #8 Braid. Kreinik put together a special thread collection for this design, which is perfect for stitch classes, guild groups, etc. www.needleandframe.com.

We found several new needlepoint designs at this primarily cross-stitch show. The quality of Harbour Light Designs stands out (she uses beautiful bargello designs in fun themes.) Summer Fun, for instance, features Kreinik threads in a beach-bargello design. Contact designer Paula Towner via email pltharbour@aol.com.

There was a fun needlepoint purse called On the Rep by Sherry Schons of Dragon Fire Designs (www.dragonfiredesigns.net) uses Kreinik Petite Facets in Sapphire, plus #8 Braid 150V Vintage Amber along with a variety of other specialty threads. The result is a striking, texture-filled evening bag.

Knitters will love the beaded knit patterns from Brenda Franklin. You can make the most elegant, trendy jewelry with her patterns. Check out Shimmer 2 Choker, Double Drop Necklace, Shimmer Collar (a necklace), Shimmer 2 Cuff Bracelet, Spiral Knit Necklace, Hoopla Knit Earrings, Spyro Gyro Spiral Knit Earrings, Shimmer Cuff Bracelet. Each design uses just one or two spools of Kreinik silk or metallic threads along with gorgeous beads. For more info, visit www.bfdesigns.on.ca.

Brenda also designs cross stitch patterns. And one of her latest is Love At First Sight, a funny take on dragon love. It uses the Fantasy colors of #4 Braid plus pearl Blending Filament. Check out www.bfdesigns.on.ca.

Some of the top Fantasy designers have collaborated on Fantasy Faire 06, a series of ornaments featuring sparkling Kreinik threads. These are limited edition designs from stars such as Dragon Dreams, Dragon Fire Designs, Xs and Ohs, Brenda Franklin, Dette Designs, Camus International, Cross Eyed Kat, and Black Swan among other talents.

More fantasy (think of these designs as a good way to get young people involved in stitching, including all of those Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fans!): Dette Designs presents The Chalice which uses Kreinik's fantasy colors plus basic metallics.

Also Red Hot Mama from Dette Designs uses #4 Braid in 002, 012, and 031. Email dettedesigns@tampabay.rr.com

Cross stitch designer Jodi Evans has a few new designs: The Queen uses #4 Braid 002C, and Star/Diva uses #4 Braid 085. www.designsbyjodievans.com

Get started on this year's Christmas presents by stitching a sweet Poinsettia jar topper by Samplers and Such (Rebecca Dorrie). It uses #4 Braid in 003, 002HL, and 008. www.samplersandsuch.com

Looking for something light and fun to stitch? Try any of Lynda Orme's new projects, including Words to Celebrate which uses #4 Braid 664. Lynda's a shop owner, in addition to designing under the name Forever In My Heart, and her store is located in Idaho Falls (phone 208-522-0648).

Fans of Sue Stehle's Sekas & Co.'s geometric hearts will love A Red Hat Lover's Heart and the timely Shamrocks & Sampler Stitches (this would be a fun project for a guild group). Visit www.sekas-and-co.com.

Always Time To Stitch features designs by Jennifer Rodriguez. We saw a cute dragonfly design that uses Kreinik Blending Filament in the wings.

For stitchers who love soft band samplers in pastel colors, you'll love Patricia Bage's Baby Keepsake Treasures design that uses Silk Mori in three colors. Romance is another beautiful band sampler that uses #4 Braid in 102 and 001. The leaflet shows two colorways so you can pick your favorite. Visit www.patricia-ann-designs.com.

The Needle's Notion had some of the most exciting finishing possibilities. Designer Lettie Eckberg has combined wool felt applique and cross stitch, so quilters will like her new designs too. For Halloween, you'll love Witch Hazel's Brew (the pillow is in the shape of a teapot!) that uses #8 Braid 102 and #4 Braid 015 and 028. Strike Up the Band is a summer project that can be framed; it uses #4 Braid 028 and 003 for fireworks. Visit www.needlesnotion.com.

Speaking of Halloween, get started on this year's decorations with Stitch Witch by Little River Design Company. #4 Braid 421 adds a touch of whimsy. Visit www.LittleRiverPatterns.com.

We were excited to see our friend Terry Nolan at the show with new projects under his Dimple Designs logo. Terry's projects are realistic, fanciful, and always well done. Check out Love Rekindles Life and Fidget (bird-lovers will flock to this one!). Visit www.dimple-designs.com.

We were also excited to meet the designers of Arachne's Silken Web. Get bee-sy stitching their projects, including Come, All Ye Christmas Bee (not your usual holiday ornament!), Sleigh Bells Buzz and Decking the Hive, not to mention O Christmas Bee. Do you see a theme?! Bees are fun and true-to-life with metallic accents in gold and pearl. Visit www.arachnessilkenweb.com.

For religious themes and Biblical inspiration, check out the new designs from A Stitch And A Prayer design company: Summer Cross uses #4 Braid 032, Wedding Sampler uses #4 Braid 002HL with a passage from Genesis, and I AM uses #4 Braid 002HL. http://astitchandaprayer.com.

And FancyWork has a beautiful, feminine Lavender Rose sewing case that uses Silk Mori and Bella in the purples and greens that are so popular right now plus Japan #1 in silver. If you're a needleworker, you'll love this project!

Punchneedle fans: there were many new punchneedle designs from Designs from the Pep'r Pot, Lizzie Kate, and many others. So run to your local needlework store to see what's new. One of our favorites: Teresa Layman's miniature knotwork kits. It's better than punchneedle! Ask your local store about Teresa Layman Designs.

This is just a partial list of the many exciting designs released at the Needlework Market, so be sure to visit the stitchery store in your town. For a list of needlework shops in your area, visit the store locator on www.kreinik.com, or call our Customer Service at 1-800-537-2166.

Happy stitching!
